„Nihil sine Deo” – „Nothing without God”. Those three words were the motto of the great sportsman, whose life and works I’m going to write tragedy and consequences in the hereafter.

 

This is an excellent athlete Marian Cozma. As we know on 8. February 2009 in particular put a stop to the cruelty of life of the giant sportsman. I present my thesis, how man was an athlete, the impact of the loss was the team MKB Veszprém HC, who wins a week after the death of deceased saluted his team-mates and friends before.

 

There are several reasons that I chose this topic. First and most important reason is that my favorite team is MKB Veszprém HC. I love handball and can I cast this sport, now five years.

The day after the tragedy, when I heard the news, I felt myself very badly, I cried like a lost family members had been. Is not well known, I never met him personally.

 

One month after the death, we were there in early March, on the team’s last Champions League Group Stage. Cozma, the elder, father of Marian is a fantastic man. Even after the loss of his son with great, but making great mental strength shown by the final journey accompanied her son and still preserves the memory of him. He was a big help in the mourning for the boys in Veszprém, he offered them one of the main support. Therefore, involves a huge respect for him both the Hungarian and the Romanian society.

Lajos Mocsai I look up, I respect his professional work and the nature of human reason. Marian Cozma was born on 8 of September 1982 in Romania’s capital, Bucharest. Marian’ father and mother Petre and Mariana Cozma were raised on of the poorest districts of the city, in Nicolae Parau street 18, three children in love, faith and peace. His father and mother had once been a member of Romania’s men’s and women’s handball Selected Team.

 

Marian had two younger sisters, the eleven month younger Ionela Negrila and the seven years younger Alexandra. Elder sister, Bisa as Marian called her, was a close relationship. Another favorite occupation was the fishing. „In the evening said a father or mother to make a little corn meal. He got up at four o’clock int he morning, went to the lake to fish and was promoted sometime in the evening or the next day.”

 

He talked by phone with his mother several times a day. He speaks five languages among other things he learned during his years in Hungarian Veszprém.

 

 

The first year, at the time coach Zovko he played little, received only a minor role on the games. The second year, Lajos Mocsai got more confidence for Marian, in his hands has developed very much. Mocsai is very good teacher in addition to being a great technician, and is was plus to become a great player from the pivot. He went to school in Bucharest in the Nr. 30. Ghica Voievod Primary School. His elder sister, Ionela went to this school as well. Marian protected and feared for his sister even here, in case of needs.

 

After he got through the primary school, he didn’t get admission to high school. So he applied for the Electroaparataj Trade School with his best friend Borboaca Adrian, called „Kacsa” by Marian. He got through the trade school during five years, and during that time he ended the high school as well. Even then, everybody loved him very much, he turned toward his fellows. „… he was the only boy in the class, and he took care of the girls, as of the apple of his eye. Everybody loved him and respected him very much. …”

 

He spent all his free time with his friends. They played billiards, run, had parties or danced in a disco together. Marian liked to dance and to enjoy himself.

 

Marian was led toward the University of Physical Education by his father. He went up to the University of Physical Education and Sport in Pitesti with several good athletes, for example the goalkeeper of the Rumanian national team, Dani Coman (…). ” The dean of the university knew Marian personally as well, who begun the master course on the University of Bucharest because of the recommendation of the directory of the university. Cozma should have finished his studies last year, but unfortunately he could not live it.

 

 

Marian got to know handball when he was 14 and he began to play by the former coach of his father. During three years he developed so much that he got into the team of Dinamo SK when he was 17. His sedulity and commitment for sport helped him to the first team Dinamo Bucharest, after six months. Petre Cozma said that his son was managed to the high-level sport and the excellent performance by three great experts, Janos Kecskes, Mihai Stark and Ian Mocanu. They had also a big share in Marian reaching the world class level.

 

 

 

He came to Dinamo Bucharest adult team when he was 18. He was the player of the team until summer 2006. During this time he had good successes with Dinamo, he won Rumanian championship and they were Rumanian Cup winner. They got into the last 8 teams in the EHF Cup. (I. appendix)

 

In March 2005 the pivot was beastly attacked on the street. The fans of the ancient rival Rapid Bucharest recognized him and rushed on him with a knife. They made a nine centimeter long and three centimeter deep cut on his back. „The attack didn’t change him, he got simply over it.”

 

 

Marian Cozma wore the jersey of the Rumanian national team 60-times during his professional career. His number in the national team was 82 as a reference to his date of birth. In the national team he scored 115 goals.

 

In the World Championship 2009 in Croatia the Rumanian national team was in the same group as the Hungarian team. Marian had little roles in this WCH. He played just a few minutes at the group match against Hungary as well and he scored one goal. After that, he declared himself disappointedly and he thought about as well that he give up the membership of the national team, and after a little time he did even so. His father declared if Aihan Omer won’t be the coach of the national team, his son will be back with pleasure.

 

 

The management of MKB Veszprem KC picked up on the huge high-grown, 211 cm high pivot in the Champions League (henceforth CL) of season 2005-2006. The Dinamo Bucharest was in the same group than the Hungarian team, both the Rumanians and Marian played very well during the two matches. Cozma scored on the two games 12 goals altogether, nine goals from that on the match in Veszprem. With that performance he called the attention of the management of Veszprem to himself, so they waited for the Rumanian pivot on the return match with a ready contract. After the match they signed the agreement, although Marian had more offers. Among others Barcelona wanted to get him as well, where the player of the Hungarian national team, Laszlo Nagy plays. The arriving of Marian in Veszprem was a big result for the Hungarian team because Marian’s big dream was to play once in Barcelona. He clung to the team of Veszprem so much as to the managing director Csaba Hajnal, who was his father instead of his father in Hungary.

 

He arrived to Veszprem in the summer of 2006. Peter Gulyas, the right wing of the team: „He arrived as a drain-pipe, who was a little bit fumbling with the ball. He was going everywhere with his camera. That’s why we called him the tourist. At the beginning he fit in the team quite hardly, but he just grin event that time, he smiled when we called him the tourist.” In these times Zdravko Zovko was the coach of the team in Veszprem. When Marian began to practice, the Croatian coach trained only four players, among them Cozma and Dejan Peric. The goalkeeper from the Serbian national team came in the same time to Veszprem as Marian. Peric remembers to their first meeting: „When I get to know somebody, the first impression is very important for me. Marian impressed me as a cheerful, honest guy.”

 

Marian grew up in poor circumstances, but during the three year spent in Veszprem, he was well off. The family was always the first thing for him; he supported them in their financial situation. He talked to his mother several times a day. He spoke five languages; among others he learned the Hungarian language as well during his years in Veszprem.

  

 

 

One of the best friend of Marian Cozma is Ferenc Ilyés. Ilyés was born in Romania too, in Transylvania, but until he lived in Székelyudvarhely, they not met each other. Their relationship did not start smoothly. When Ilyés was a player of Pick Szeged, then met first time each other, but they were just modding acquaintance. Feci, this is the nickname of Ferenc Ilyés, said, when he confirmed to Veszprém, he was afraid, that Marian will thrust oneself upon, because he speaks Romanian. However he afraid of the Bird, because he heard, that Bird loves life and loves to party. The pivot also had reservations over the left back. “He later said that he had strange feelings about me, well I speak the mother tongue, but in fact I’m Hungarian, and therefore will not be speak with him.” But life has confounded both of them. They soon signed a friendship. A good part in their free time spendt together, often sitting in a favorite Café of Marian. Marko Vujin was another best friend of Cozma in the team. Vujin is in the same year, 2006, to Veszprém verified from Dunaferr. That said, earlier, in 2004, they met a Romanian-Serbian World Cup qualification match. No one recognized better Bird, than Marko. Their home were close each other and “both arrived in Veszprém single, (…) we had a lot of free time, what we spendt most commonly.” They drank coffee together in the morning, lunch at noon, and then after the training in the evening to beat their time together.

 

The tattoos on the two forearm of Marian linked to be closely to his friend. Spring of 2008 were KEK winners and then “jointly decided, that some text we have tattooed us. Marian entered the Romanian national team, which going to the World Championship in Croatia in 2009. During the preparation at home in Romania he come to know and to love a girl, Claudia. On the tragical night he went together to Marko and started to celebrate the newborn baby boy of Gergő Iváncsik.

 

 

Saturday, 7th of February 2009. MKB Veszprém KC played this afternoon against Balatonfüred in the Hungarian Cup. The championship was on paper 42-23 defeat to the Füred team, this position is provided in the joint between the top eight. Cozma also greatly contributed to this match to win the game, throwing for goals during the match.

 

 

After the match some of the team went to dinner of Marian’s favorite place to the Italian restaurant Chianti. “Always ordered carpaccio appetizer, and ate steak bloody with mushroom sauce. Ten o’clock in the morning began the send-off in the narrow range in the Veszprém Aréna, where the lines came broken Veszprém players and the club board members. On a private farewell laid every players a red rose of the coffin. Quietly said goodbye to everyone in Veszprém. At eleven o’clock the coffin carrying Bucharest plate car rolled from the Arena and went long, about a thousand kilometers.

The first stop of the march was at the Újszeged Sportaréna. Hundreds of people waited to be allowed to bid a final farewell from the pivot. The match won the home team 28-26. On the game provided a great performance the goalkeeper Dejan Peric and the point guard Nikola Eklemovics. The end of the match stood the all arena and applauded the great fighting team. Nobody from the five thousand people did not move, nearly forty minutes cheered the players and Marian Cozma. Many players burst into tears, all of emotion came out of them. Petre Cozma after the tragedy his son showed his human greatness. He meet with heavy losses, he don’t crack up, but everyone supported and comforted. He said, he lost his beloved son, but he came fifteen new boy, the players. Ferenc Ilyés, a friend talked about this great man: “Marian always talked about his father, that his father is a God. (…) and so I had to figure out how Marian was right. (…) His father is truly a fantastic man. When we should give this 15 man force him, the opposite happens. He gives force for us. He comes to our games, write an SMS, that “they are unbeatable” before the game.” This will also help the players by the processing the grief.

 

 

Mourning is a process in which people try to adapt themselves to the loss. This internal process is very difficult and painful taking place very slowly. When we are mourning we let the person we had lost go.

 

The death and its different cultures touch people in different ways. The method of mourning depends on for example the age of the person who is mourning and who we had lost and the relationship betwen the two people. It also depends on how we were ready for their loss. The family, the friends, the fans live mourning through profoundly. Marian Cozma was a young man, full of vitality, who lived only 26 years. He was killed by brutal human cruelty. We were unable to get ready for his death. A lot of people mourned and others are mourning Marian, like his family, mates, the fans, the European handball society and the citizens of Hungary and Romania.

3. Stage of recovery

 

 

The first stage is a kind of shock, paralysis and scepticism, which appeares independently of the fact that we were ready for the loss of the person or not. Denying of death takes place in this stage: You don’t want to believe the loss, the fact is needed to be confirmed by other sources too. All this process is needed to make the unacceptable fact real. Iváncsik Gergő, several months after the tragedy was also unable to get over the loss. ”There are still a couple of times a week in the evenings when I think about him, and then it takes at least two or three hours to fall asleep. I feel that it is going to take ages for me to accept his loss.”

 

 

The realization of the loss follows the first short term, which is a severe and longer term. This phase is characterized by high emotional swings and physical symptoms. The grieving person struggles with depression, hiperactivity, regression, and falls back into a helplessful stadium. During this period you get into a dual state of consciousness and at the same time there is the rejection and acceptance of the loss. This is accompained by dual emotions like fury and forgiveness, love and hate, resignation and rebuilding, desperation and hope.You have a sense of guilt because of the errors committed against your loved one and also because of your own negative feelings. So the person tells the world that the one who died was the best. This idealisation is noticable in case of Marian too, although, he was really such a man who lived an examplary life. ’He was really helpful, familiar, friendly, so everybody loved him in Veszprém,’ said Marko Vujin, the best friend of Cozma. A fan also remembers him, ’Due to my job I meet a lot of homeless, fallen and poor people every day. They also remember with gratitude our „Giant” and preserve his memory. He helped a lot of people who we don’t know about, because he did it silently and selflessly. He was a real man, and the world became poorer without him.’

 

 

It is the stage of recovery. Finishing mouring means that we adapted to the loss and are able to accept it. We will be able to be happy, regain our ballance, hope, and energy.

 

 

These phases can not be separated so sharply. Well, we should pay attention to the transitions between stages. For example, the period between the first and second phase is characterized by a dual state of mind. When there is a non-acceptance of the loss and meeting the experience as well. Later this duality is the basis of the acceptance of tragedy. Anniversaries can bring the grief, sadness, despair and loneless back again. These emotions can occur even long after the loss has been overcome, accepted and you recovered from the crisis. Mourning comes to the end once. Mourning finishes when we acquire our dead, we make them one with our intern. It is important for the players to talk either to each other or to a psychologist. The team members of Veszprem wanted to solve the problem among each other. It is known that in these situations the coach plays a very important role. The players needed Lajos Mocsai’s problem-solving abilities. The first step was recalling of what they had learnt from Cozma, and extras, he had given to the team. But they also have to imagine what Marian Cozma would do in this situation. The team overcome the tragedy together by helping and relying on each other. Gyula Gál –the ex-pivot of Veszprem– tried to help the others and himself as well: ’ I am sure that we have to support each other not only during the next days but also all the year. We can only step forward if we support each other and can come forward step by step, hand in hand.’ The members of the team were brouht together by the tragedy. Lajos Mocsai –the coach of the team– had to be very strong and he wan’t allowed to show his pain to the guys. Since then the players have been the main supporters of each other, but they owe much their familes, Lajos and Petre Cozma as well.

’We tried to speak the problems out together, ’ said the team.

 

It was said about Marian Cozma

 

When we loose our loves, friends, easily say that we will never forget them. Then time makes its effect and heals the wounds, that were so painful earlier, life goes on by its own way. I would like that now the statement come true, and we really never forget that a great Romanian guy, Marian Cozma lived among us. It isn’t going to depend on Ilyés Ferenc, Marian lives in his heart forever. Since then Iváncsik Tamás ruminate a lot that what would happened if the team of Balatonfüred had acceted the changed term of the match, or Iváncsik Gergő’s wife and their baby had been allowed to go home from the hospital for the weekend and Gergő hadn’t invited the team for a party. ’It’s unacceptable for me, that 26-year-old man, who is full of energy loose his life on such a way like Marian lost. Since then players go nowhere, they would rather watch TV at home or spend the time with their families.

 

His team-mates, friends, remembers only the nice things about him. Iváncsik Tamás hopes that this would remain so, ’It would be nice if everyone would remain so in the mind.’ Dejan Peric loved him like his younger brother, and looked after him too. ’He lived his life honestly, you could read his emotions in his face. He also lived his life to 300 %, whatever he did, he made that to the maximum. He was a religious person as well, he loved and respected people. At the same time he was interested in everything, besides, he was extremely open-minded and willing to learn,’. His humanity was the most important for Peric, if he needs stregth, he always remembers Marian’s smyle.

 

Marko Vujin noticed a very interesting thing in relation to Marian. ’The numbers show that there was a fateful what had happened: He was born on the 8th of September in 1982, and he died on the 8th of February. After his death we won the first home match against the Spanish Ademar Leon by 28:26, so that in the final 3 minutes neither team could score drop. 28:26 that I can read like that 8th of February,<a href="http://www.viporak.com">replika órák</a> and on the other side the number, how many age he lived, twenty six.

 

Gulyás Péter also loved Cozma very much since he is also a funny and playful nature of man, as Marian was. ’Really, it can not be a bad word for him,’. Nobody is saying him wrong. His memory is perserved everywhere to this day.
